Naturists in Newcastle are saying a final farewell to the City Pool with one last naked swim before the venue closes.
For most people the last swim at the pool will be March 28, but the Nudeswims Newcastle group held their final session a few days earlier.
The group, which has been running for almost 30 years, hires out both the pool and the Edwardian Turkish baths once a month for its 40 members.
But the closure of the City Pool, part of a £100m programme of budget cuts by Newcastle City Council, means the group have now had to find a new venue.
Organiser Rod, who did not wish to give his full name, said: “We’ve managed to arrange our next swim at Outer West Pool in Newcastle, but nevertheless it is sad to be losing the City Pool which is such a beautiful venue.
"It is hard to find places to go, with most modern swimming pools having big glass windows and buildings like the City Pool all closing down.
"That can be sorted by using blinds though, and there’s probably more of an issue with some pools saying we don’t want to be involved, we don’t want naked people in our pool.
"I don’t understand it, we pay thousands every year for it, is our money a different colour to other people’s money?"
Rod, who is from County Durham, has been a naturist for 30 years after reading a book on naturist beaches which inspired him to visit one in France.
He added: “Everybody that knows me knows I’m a naturist, but I wouldn’t put my full name to it because there are still so many prejudices.
"I’d worry if I applied for a job and somebody googled my name, they may not hire me because of it.
"My children have been bullied because of it, my daughter has been told her father is a pervert, which just isn’t right.
"I try to be as open about it as I can though, otherwise unfortunately people think there’s something odd going on and there’s simply not.
"We just like to swim and use the sauna without having to wear clothes. In Germany everybody goes in the sauna naked, it’s just a cultural thing."
The group have swum at various pools including Jesmond pool, East End pool, Outer West pool and the former Byker pool.
Nudeswims Newcastle begin their new sessions at Outer West pool in Newcastle on April 2, 2013.

Robbe White is a 27-year-old with a head of cherubic, golden curls. His girlfriend, 24-year-old Anna Phillips, is pretty and sun-kissed, with long, chestnut hair. Phillips is eight months pregnant, but otherwise, these two look like the stereotypical, All-American boy and girl next door.
Except for one detail: They spend most of their time naked.
White and Phillips both come from conservative Christian families. White spent childhood vacations from school as a missionary in tropical foreign lands. Phillips has seven siblings and was raised to believe that birth control is evil. So these two might seem unlikely leaders of a nudist revival movement. But they run the Florida Young Naturists, a group of 18- to 30-year-olds who gather throughout the year to spend weekends au naturel, slipping down water slides, squatting in yoga poses, and beating drums around bonfires.
Being naked, White says, is “really freeing… As far as why I’ve started [FYN] and how it’s paid off with me — there have just been so many positive stories that have come out of this. People have come for the first time and left the weekend crying. So many people have said, ‘Wow, this was really great.’

We want to talk about why this particular organ has been singled out for so much, and so little, attention by nudist society. Why erections are of such concern while other indications of possible sexual arousal are not. Why signs of such arousal are taboo, and whether those attitudes are appropriate within the nudist/naturist philosophy. We don’t want a discussion about the appropriateness of sexuality within the nudist/naturist community; rather, strictly a discussion about penises and their status within that community.
The museum in his beautiful nudes on display. Voluptuous and round, by Aristide Maillol - or muscular and toned by Auguste Rodin. Yet it is not often that naked people running the museum. In episode 11 of Boijmans TV Guide Bregje however, receives a group of naturists. In Adam’s costume when they discuss Rodin’s Eve on shame, the place of man in creation and the loss of paradise. Meanwhile trusts artist Zeger Reijers Arie security guard that he might be ashamed of ‘Rotating Kitchen’, a performance with a full kitchen, with everything on there and there, with gentle force the destruction runs. Reijers loves cooking and compares it with art. As a cook and as an artist he likes to mix ingredients from around the world together. He looks mainly to the moment when his guests or audience can ask: and …? And …? Jordi is the rotating kitchen Reijers a bit like the kitchen at home, after Marco’s father cooked. And naturists in the museum make it even particularly enthusiastic: bare, bare, bare - art, art, art! But who is it that tight bespectacled artist Mandy at the desk offers a work of art whose working title - mushroom cock - sink in right away better than the official English name? The flattery of her lovely red lips do not cope Mandy. But for the art work she has a great place!

Though the West has warmed up to the philosophy of nudism or naturism, what with optional-clothing beaches, parks and pools, India, with its many taboos, is still talking about it in hushed tones or in the comfortable confines of the virtual world.
Kedar Ramanathan brightens up at the prospect of finding himself alone at home. He slips out of his clothes, brews himself some coffee and turns on the music. He roams around the house naked, taking pleasure in just being in his own skin.
While many would view his activities as kinky and bordering on sexual perversion, Pune-based Ramanathan doesn’t actually have sex on his mind.
Far from it, being in the buff is his way of feeling free, shedding both physical and emotional baggage and being close to nature. He is a naturist, or in other words a nudist.
Naturism is a way of life that advocates practising nudism - both in private and public - without indulging in any sexual activities.
A fairly popular concept in the US, Britain, Canada and Thailand, a regular nudist meet abroad has both men and women engaging in any activity - from cooking to cycling to sunbathing - with only one precondition, everyone should be naked.

A billboard for bodycare brand Ecoya, which features a naked woman straddling a horse, has been blocked from running on outdoor sites in Australia.
The Outdoor Media Association deemed that the ad – which was permitted to run in New Zealand – breached its code of ethics and did not treat sex and nudity with due sensitivity, and would be seen by children as well as its target audience of adult women.
The image is running on Ecoya’s website, with a number of others of naked women with animals. Ecoya’s New Zealand-based chairman Geoff Ross said he had also tried to run an image of a woman posing with an owl on Australian billboards. But that was also refused by the OMA.
